CHARACTER
INFORMATION
Name: The Gizoid
Nicknames:
Emerl, The Ultimate Being
Inventory
classification: No known inventory
Gender: N/A - Robot
Age:
Unknown, well past 4,000 years old
Date of birth: Sometime over 4,000 years
ago
Birthplace: Unknown
Height: 110 centimeters (3 feet and 7 inches)
Weight:
14 kilograms (30.8 pounds)
Physical
techniques: Emerl's unique ability can give it pretty much
any special attack it views and registers in its database, so its potential
for physical techniques is endless.
Aptitude
statistics :
(1). Emerl has a programmed function that enables it to register any
skill, weapon, or attack it watches in action and thus learn how to
perfectly emulate the skill itself.
(2). When Emerl acquaints itself with another, it will initiate a link
with its accomplice and begin to act very similar and speak very similar
to whom it establishes this link with. A link is also automatically
established with those who are in possession of absolute power.
(3). Emerl's AI capabilities and power increases when it is given Chaos
Emeralds. Once it has all seven, it becomes unruly and set on destruction…
quite similar to Chaos.
Hardware specs: Unknown
Weaknesses:
(1). Emerl gets more powerful through experience and watching others
battle so it can learn their attacks, giving it a very diverse set of
moves and abilities. However, Emerl's default attacks and abilities
it has registered from 4,000 years ago are downright pathetic and weak.
Appearance:
- Mustard-yellow, orange, olive brown, and beige color scheme
- An orange crest erects from the center of Emerl's head. In the center
of the crest is a mustard yellow ovular piece that can open up to reveal
a blue transparent blue and glossy ovular piece when Emerl obtains all
Chaos Emeralds
- Broad-chested body with three beige caps in the shape of a triangle
on its chest
- Large, blue and glossy eyes
- Orange spherical shoulder pads, with olive-brownish beams as arms
and acylindrical lower arm segments
- Olive-brownish hands with segmented, flexible fingers
- Leg articulation scheme is similar to the arms with the spherical
pieces and the beams
- Hinge-articulated shoes accented on the soles with orange
Items & weapons: N/A
Vehicle(s):

Personality
details: The Gizoid's personality depends entirely upon who
it establishes a link with. If it establishes a link with somebody,
it offers complete allegiance to the person and after time, The Gizoid
begins to act just like them and adopts the very same conduct and mannerisms.
This strikingly unusual behavior can actually be quite veritable since
it has been proven that The Gizoid can establish this contract with
more than just one person. Before Emerl was destroyed, its personality
was an elaborate mixture of Sonic's, Tails', Knuckles', Amy's, Cream's,
Rouge's, and Shadow's personalities. However, as mentioned, it will
dismiss all original acquaintances it has established a link with should
it encounter someone with overwhelming power. There is also a free will,
emotions-based AI system that can only be unlocked if the words "Bring
Hope to Humanity" are uttered. The personality Emerl adopts when
this AI system is activated has not been observed long enough to be
described well. It was programmed into Emerl by Gerald Robotnik 50 years
ago.
Historical
biography:
Well
over 4000 years ago, The Gizoid was created by an ancient peoples using
very mysterious technology and for an unknown purpose. It was lost for
hundreds of years until finally being recovered in an old inventory
garage by one Gerald Robotnik, a research scientist at the Space Colony
ARK. The following are excerpts from Gerald Robotnik's journal regarding
this extraordinary sentient robot:
-Entry #1
"I have uncovered a most interesting specimen from the warehouse.
I believe it is some sort of puppet or robot made by ancient people.
At first, I didn't think anything of it, but when I was experimenting
on a Chaos Emerald, it began to move. This suggests the possibility
that even the ancient civilizations could harness the power of the Chaos
Emeralds. When I was researching various papers related to the power
of the Chaos Emeralds and this robot, I discovered that there was a
possibility that this robot was something incredible. I don't want to
get ahead of myself, but this robot may be the cause of the Fourth Great
Civilization's destruction. I'm not sure I believe it just yet, though."
-Entry #2
"I am no longer able to ignore the possibility that this robot
did in fact destroy the Fourth Great Civilization. I have discovered
a stone tablet that explains as much. According to the tablet, 'When
the figure falls from the heavens, and the Stone of the Gods is joined,
all that exists will become one again.' Though it is difficult to believe,
this robot has been watching my movements, and mimicking all that I
do. I was amazed by my scans of this being. Surprisingly, reams and
reams of data scroll and causes my most powerful computer to crash.
More intriguing was that the data was all about melee combat and weapons
of that age. Eventually, if this being is ever restored to its former
state, it will put all that data to use, and recreate all the weaponry
and combat abilities that it once had... And that's not all. If my guesses
are correct, it will also have the ability to absorb modern weaponry
as well. What have I done? I have uncovered a horrible weapon."
-Entry #3
"I now understand why this being was named 'Gizoid'. In the ancient
tongue, it meant 'everything'. According to the stone tablet, if the
Gizoid establishes a 'link' with someone, the Gizoid will swear loyalty
to that person. Perhaps it still lacks 'Chaos Emerald' energy, but it
has still been saying the word 'Link' to me in broken tones. It went
on to explain, 'Show me your true strength and I shall obey. I am all
things, and all shall belong to me.' So as it suggested, I brought before
it my collection of model guns, and freed them all. Then, suddenly,
it said, 'I shall follow your every command, and never leave your side.'
And since then, it refuses to listen to anyone but me. While it still
remains under my control, at least it won't be used for evil. However,
if someone with evil intentions ever forms a 'Link' with the Gizoid...
I don't even want to think about what will happen. I must research how
one can can re-establish a 'Link' with the Gizoid."
-Entry #4
"The upper echelon is going crazy. Perhaps they aim to freeze Project
'Shadow'. Soon the Ultimate Lifeform, 'Shadow' will be completed...
The application to my granddaughter is also innocent. I cannot just
let them stop my study at this point. Because I am the only on who can
save my granddaughter's life."
-Entry #5
"The higher ups are threatening to shut down this research facility.
I had no choice but to hand them the Gizoid to buy more time for my
research. I tried to be careful and commanded it to never absorb any
dangerous technologies. However, I have heard that other researchers
have been making the Gizoid absorb weapons. Apparently, the way to cause
the Gizoid to form a new 'Link' is to show it power that surpasses any
of its former masters. While this poses immense danger, I cannot risk
losing Maria."
-Entry #6
"My worst fears have come true. The Gizoid has absorbed enough
weaponry and technology that it has started to go out of control. The
resulting rampage resulted in the destruction of most of the 'Ark.'
...I have deciphered the rest of the stone tablet. It says, 'When the
Gizoid had all that could, it became a god of wrath, and all was destroyed.'
The researchers somehow managed to subdue the Gizoid and sealed it away.
Luckily, it only had one 'Chaos Emerald' installed. If it were to have
all 7 Emeralds installed, it might destroy the whole planet. The Gizoid
is too much of a liability. I tried destroying its core, but nothing
I did worked. I understand too little of the technology that built him.
My best hope is to try and reprogram its AI into a free-willed, emotions-based
AI..."
-Entry
#7
"I have heard there was an accident at the research facility...
... ... Everything...Everything is gone. My own Maria's name was among
the list of casualties. My beloved granddaughter...They tell me her
parting words were 'Bring hope to humanity.' I have decided that the
keyword to activate the Gizoid's free-willed emotions-based AI program
will be those very words. 'Bring hope to all humanity.' My poor, poor
Maria..."
-Entry #8
"A heritage of the past I dug out, 'Gizoid'...And the Ultimate
Lifeform I created with my own hands, Shadow... I have equipped both
with a 'heart.' If all powers are not what is to be obtained for oneself,
but what is to be born from hearts that yearn for someone, I believe
all conflicts should cease to exist. Please...If there is anyone listening
to my prayers... bring hope to humanity."
For
half a century, The Gizoid had lied dormant. And it was unfortunately
found by Gerald's own grandson, Dr. Ivo Robotnik. Good thing is, the
robot was just as quickly thrown away since it would not activate and
was ultimately trash. After disposing of The Gizoid over on the sandy
shores of the beach, Eggman went off to build the E-121 "Phi,"
a superior model that is designed off of the Gizoid, but actually obeys
Eggman and, of course, works properly.
A
little later, Sonic stumbled across Gizoid on the beach. Oddly enough,
the robot actually responded to Sonic and soon enough established a
link. Sonic nicknamed his new friend Emerl because of the robot's
unusual requests for Chaos Emeralds and its reaction to them. After
time, Emerl eventually gets caught in the affairs of pretty much all
of Sonic's friends and even his foes, establishing links with each of
them and adopting their personality traits, giving Emerl quite a veritable
range of behaviors. Many of these affairs involved a lot of fast-paced
melee battle and combat. Each of them focused on teaching Emerl how
to fight, and learned he did, indeed. Emerl had learned personality
traits and many, MANY attacks and abilities from Sonic, Tails, Knuckles,
Amy, Cream, Rouge, and even Shadow.
However,
Shadow's relationship with Emerl was a bit more historic than everyone
else's. Shadow knew that Emerl was nothing but trouble. In spite of
the fact that Emerl had made a transition from a lifeless pile of junk
to a friendly and outgoing mech, Shadow knew that Emerl was still a
weapon: aweapon meant to destroy and only to destroy. This was proven
later, a bit after Emerl had acquired all seven Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic
and his friends, along with Emerl got themselves wrapped up in the business
of none other than Dr. Eggman, who tried to ward off those pesky meddlers
by unleashing his army of E-121 "Phis" and Chaos Gamma (the
design of which is quite familiar). But in the end, our heroes put a
stop to all of those that stood in their way. It was at this point Eggman
launched his brand new Death Egg into the sky. This new Death Egg seemed
to have been equipped with a weapon called the Final Egg Blaster, which
had the power to destroy planets, much like the Space Colony ARK could.
This simply wouldn't do, so off Emerl himself went to stop Eggman.
What
Sonic and his friends completely forgot was Emerl's past… but
Shadow most certainly didn't. Sure, Emerl managed to lay the smackdown
on Eggman, but right before he went back to Earth to celebrate with
his friends, Eggman activated the Final Egg Blaster and began to fire
it towards a bunch of stars. The overwhelming power Dr. Eggman had in
his hands activated the Gizoid's original function. It was equipped
with all 7 Chaos Emeralds as well, so this spelt nothing but trouble.
The robot became completely unruly and was bent on destroying absolutely
everything. As a start, it aimed the Final Egg Blaster right
at Earth. Even Eggman realized that Emerl couldn't do this… without
Earth, there would be nothing to rule! But it wasn't like he could do
anything about it, since Emerl took Dr. Robotnik out of the picture by
knocking him out.
Emerl
was ransacking the Death Egg space station as our heroes contemplated
a way to stop it. Of course! The Master Emerald! By using it, they can
negate the power of the Chaos Emeralds and thus stop Emerl. But before
Sonic could even use it on him, the insane mech shattered it to pieces.
So what now? Luckily, Tails discovers that Emerl is very unstable and
if enough damage is inflicted by Sonic, the power it possesses should overwhelm
it and stop it. Indeed, this was true. But it resulted in Emerl's destruction
and the robot that our heroes had shared such a good bond and friendship
with was no more.
Emerl's
loss in the long run had finally been stressed off, but shades of the
robot still existed in the form of Gemerl, another creation of Eggman's
with a design based off of the ancient relic. Gemerl (image)
also became self-aware and tried to destroy everything, but luckily
was stopped by the likes of Sonic & Eggman, later being re-programmed
by Tails with a free will and is now a good friend of Cream's. Overall,
Emerl may have been a mindless weapon of mass destruction at heart,
but it was proven to also have the potential of being a very good ally
to Sonic and company.

Personal character analysis/commentary (by Nuclear Envoy):
Emerl's
concept and gimmick are both certainly interesting. I mean, if he registers
enough data, Emerl becomes the most powerful Sonic character. But since
he was destroyed, we won't be worrying about that anymore. That's quite
a step-up, though. And it's quite a character to introduce in a second-tier
GBA title. Usually the important characters with indepth stories are
released on console titles. Emerl looks cool, has a neat gimmick, and
is overall a very original and creative specimen. In spite of that,
his ranks in the fanbase are pretty low. Emerl is mostly taken with
a pinch of salt like most robot characters. (Metal Sonic is the only
one you'll notice have a very extensive fanbase… hey, at least
these people have good taste.) As for Emerl? Don't get your hopes up,
especially since he is destroyed. He is down there with Gamma, except
he has it even worse since he was released on a much less popular GBA
title. In fact, the only praised thing that even came out of Sonic Battle
was the art style it used since it was all the rage for Sonic artists
over at DeviantFART when Sonic Battle was released.
Otherwise,
Emerl is a pretty neat innovation. My only problem with Emerl is that
he is a huge plothole and the story that revolves around him is a huge
plothole… especially those journal entries written by Gerald Robotnik.
I'm sure when you skimmed or read through them on Emerl's backstory,
you noticed some rather unusual stuff. But most of all, WHAT the hell?
At the end, Gerald is all positive and says he endowed Shadow with a
heart. Sonic Adventure 2's original story portrays that Maria's death
caused Gerald to go insane and modify Shadow with a thirst to avenge
Maria and wreak havoc upon the world, much less bring hope to it. Her
parting words were NOT "Bring hope to humanity," damn it.
I swear, sometimes I wonder of these people at Sonic Team actually hit
themselves with an aluminum-cased, C02-filled oxygen baseball bat repeatedly
to cut out a bit of their memory before they map out the story for each
Sonic game. I know the continuity isn't important to them, but it's
not that hard to make a commitment to a single freakin' idea or premise.
The fact that Gerald went insane was, like, RIGHT in your face at the
end of SA2. How could they change such a huge asset to the storyline?
Oh well. The game was fun to play, so they got what they wanted.
In the long
run, Emerl'll probably end up in the Scrapped Characters part
of this sub-section along with Gamma.
