CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name:
Metal Knuckles

Nicknames: N/A

Inventory classification: Liberated mechanical doppelganger of Knuckles the Echidna. Metal Knuckles is the 5th innovation involving the creation of a metal duplicate of a living being, and has an unknown inventory identification number.

Gender: N/A, robot — has the shape and mannerisms of a male, not to mention is based off of one.

Age: Unknown; was created at the time of the World Grand Prix, but wasn't destroyed. The Metal Knuckles model is currently in storage and its usefulness discontinued.

Date of birth: Unknown

Birthplace: Unknown, probably inside one of the many bases constructed by Dr. Robotnik.

Height: Unknown
(Speculation: Even though it's safe to assume that since Sonic & Metal Sonic are of the same height, Metal Knuckles' would be the same as his organic counterpart's. But to double check, I booted up Sonic R to try to match them both and the results are the same. So it's quite probable that Metal Knuckles' height is the same as Knuckles', and since neither of their heights were offered in those days, it makes it even easier to guess that Metal Knuckles' height is 110 centimeters [3'7"].)

Weight: Unknown
(Speculation: Metal Sonic's weight is 125 kilograms, which is 276 lbs. But that's Metal Sonic, who is obviously more streamlined and is probably less weighty to support its incredible speed. Metal Knuckles is fast, but not quite as fast. You add that to its larger bulk, more unwieldy and [probably] substandard engine, and, of course, who it was designed off of, then you can guess that Metal Knuckles' weighs significantly more than Metal Sonic. My ballpark guess is anywhere between 170 to 210 kilograms [374 to 462 lbs.].)

Physical techniques: N/A
(Even though Metal Knuckles officially has no recorded physical techniques, it's safe to assume that like how Metal Sonic does to Sonic, Metal Knuckles is able to emulate the techniques of Knuckles. This concludes that Metal Knuckles more than likely knows how to do the spinball jump, spin dash, etc., etc.)

Aptitude statistics:
*(1). Like how Metal Sonic is meant to emulate Sonic's speed, Metal Knuckles' specs and hardware are meant to emulate Knuckles' brute strength down to the very last detail. *(This is a tentative statistic, since it is not officially documented. But common sense should tell you that this SHOULD be an ability of Metal Knuckles'.)
(2). Its slightly-less downgraded engine (when compared to Metal Sonic's) can still make Metal Knuckles capable of moving at incredibly fast speeds, nonetheless.
(3). Even though Metal Knuckles' just sinks in water, its hardware and frame are both waterproof.
*(4). Metal Knuckles' long, durable and sharp claws enable it to climb and dig just like its organic counterpart. *(This is a tentative statistic, since it is not officially documented. But common sense should tell you that this SHOULD be an ability of Metal Knuckles', or else there would be no reason for it to have those giant claws.)
(5). By simply spreading its arms out, Metal Knuckles' unique engine enables it to glide across the air at heights and speeds that surpass Knuckles' gliding ability.

Hardware specs: Unknown
(Speculation: Metal Knuckles' hardware is probably the same technology used in Metal Sonic as far as the AI, CPU, frame, and cowling goes. But the engine is probably not as advanced when considering Metal Knuckles' lower speed. To go see Metal Sonic's specs for reference, visit the REAL Character Profile.)

Weaknesses: No known weaknesses.

Physical Appearance:
- Primarily red color scheme
- Chrome, long-snouted muzzle with large screws bolted into the cheeks, silver arm partitions, and other accents
- Green, ovular ring-shaped eyes overlaid on black sclera
- 5 flexible tendrils that are accented in white draping down around its head — they resemble fan blades a bit and the bottom of these tendrils are flat and segmented in yellow
- Buff-chested physique with Knuckles' trademark crescent shape painted onto the chest area, while sticking out of the back of the body is the exhaust segment of the engine, taking the shape of a large silver cylinder
- Arms and legs have two points of articulation and the first segment of each is but a simple chrome beam while the second segment is a thick, cylindrical red piece that starts at the knees/elbows
- Chrome shoulderpads
- Very large red pieces serving as hands that have a yellow dome accent on top, and coming out of the ends are two long and razor-sharp claws glossed in chrome
- Red and yellow, flexible shoes that resemble Knuckles down to the bolted plate on top (except there are only 3 large, ovular bolts) — the shoes connect to the lower green part of the limbs via a thick cylinder of chrome that is visible on the sides of the shoes

Items & weapons: N/A

Vehicle(s): N/A

Personality details: Metal Knuckles, like any of Eggman's robots, was of course created with a "master entry" in its registry, which cites that by no means is this robot to disobey or defy its creator and master, Dr. Eggman. But besides that, not a hint of Metal Knuckles' personality was displayed throughout its debut (and so far only) video game. Even then, it probably doesn't have a personality. It simply does what it is programmed to do and that is to stop that meddling hedgehog Sonic and his friends at all costs.

Historical biography:

Metal Knuckles' existence served a far more dull and outmoded purpose than Metal Sonic's. Metal Knuckles was created to simply be a diversion for Sonic during his participation in the World Grand Prix. Turns out that Eggman knew the Chaos Emeralds were scattered among the tracks of the race, so he constructed some robots to do the dirty work for him. Metal Knuckles happened to be the one that was to intercept Sonic at the Reactive Factory track, but in the end, Sonic managed to collect the Chaos Emeralds himself, winning the Grand Prix and smoking his friends and foes in his cosmic dust. Although Metal Knuckles wasn't destroyed, it hasn't been seen since and is assumed to be a discontinued model.

GAME INFORMATION

Franchise name: Metal Knuckles.

Original purpose: Antagonist role in Sonic R.

Current purpose: N/A, character is scrapped.

Date of first promotion/presence in the industry: Metal Knuckles' debut in the industry came along with the release of the Sega Saturn title, Sonic R, released first in the USA on November 11th of 1997.

Years in service: Not even a year: Metal Knuckles' first and last appearance was Sonic R, released in 1997.

Likelihood of a possible return: Very low. Metal Knuckles was probably just a filler character for Sonic R in the first place. Metal Sonic has a reputation in today's generation as the prime robot duplicate. If Metal Knuckles were to make a return, it would tarnish Metal Sonic's standing, which is something Sonic Team seems to have tried maintaining lately. And, of course, Metal Knuckles is even more shallow than Bean and Bark from a depth standpoint.

Original Designer: Unconfirmed. There is a very high chance… in fact, it probably IS Yuji Uekawa since he was the character designer for Sonic R.

Design process: Unconfirmed. Metal Knuckles' design process was probably similar to how all of the others were made. Many design sketches were made, and Metal Knuckles was chosen. Simple as that.

Possible design inspirations: Metal Knuckles' most palpable design inspiration is easy to figure out: Metal Sonic! Metal Knuckles basically has the looks and accents Metal Sonic possesses, except they are structured and colored to cater to Knuckles' appearance instead of Sonic's.

Personal character analysis/commentary (by Nuclear Envoy):

Even though Metal Knuckles is pretty cool-looking, he just doesn't stand up to Hoshino's design of Metal Sonic. That is probably the reason Metal Knuckles was scrapped. Metal Sonic has a very distinctive and attractive fact, and if Metal Knuckles stuck around, Metal Sonic wouldn't be held with as much regard, nor would he be as special (especially after that episode in Sonic Heroes). The only way they could pull off Metal Knuckles' return is if they made a Metal Tails to complete some special anti-Triple Threat team of metallic grandeur or something. But other than that, Metal Knuckles' loss wasn't that big a deal.

If the heights and ages listed in Bean and Bark's profiles are actually official information, then that means that even they have more depth and statistics than Metal Knuckles. Only Ray would be matching him, but Ray has a career in the comics and had a voice actor. All Metal Knux has going for him is that he was presented in a fairly popular Sonic title. But even then, this robot is held with little regard and is generally ignored. But Metal Knux deserves his place here just as much as any scrapped character and he would definitely have potential in today's generation. All there would be to worry about is whether or not he'll screw up Metal Sonic's rap.
