CHARACTER INFORMATION

Name:
Bean

Nicknames: N/A

Race: Duck
(Speculation: If you choose to get technical, Bean is most likely a Tufted Duck, since it matches his physical features the most.)

Gender: Male

Age: ~15
(Speculation: This parameter is not indisputably confirmed. I've seen it listed as his age in one source, so I'll assume they've listed an official age. If his age is actually unknown, 15 would be a very good choice, anyway.)

Date of birth: Unknown

Birthplace: Unknown

Height: ~157 centimeters (5'2")
(This is not indisputably confirmed as Bean's height. I've seen this listed as his height in two sources. It wouldn't surprise me if this is false information, since 5 feet is unusually tall. He doesn't look that tall in the game.)

Weight: Unknown
(Speculation: In spite of his height, Bean *is* a bird. Although, species might not be accounted for in the physical parameters of a Sonic character, it's likely Bean has a low weight. He does have a bit of a gut on him; his body is a lot like Fang's, maybe even plumper. Who knows? A good estimate would 28 to 34 kilograms [61 to 74 lbs].)

Physical techniques: N/A

Abilities and aptitude:
(1). Bean definitely knows how to use his beak when it comes to pecking. Once you're caught in a flurry of pecks from this duck, you're not likely to escape. (Trust me, it's annoying enough to mark as an ability.)

Hobbies and talents:
(1). Bean knows explosives and bombs and he definitely knows how to use them. Whatever risk is taken, or however big the range of the bomb's explosion, there is no doubt Bean will be happy to see it and just as happy to see it go BOOM.

Weaknesses: No known weaknesses.

Physical Appearance:
- Green feathered body
- Yellow beak and legs (the top of his legs are still covered with feathers to about his knees, however)
- Black eyes
- Two large tufts on his forehead, the top one meshing with the rest of his head, along with an additional two tufts on the back of his head
- Two arched feathers/tufts on his posterior to serve as a tail

Attire:
- A pair of white gloves with large, sock-like cuffs
- Red bandana that is worn around his neck
- Red sneakers with an adorning white strap and white rubber soles

Items & weapons:
- Has a virtually endless supply of large cherry bombs

Vehicle(s): N/A

Personality details: Bean's personality is actually quite unclear. His debut game didn't give him any description or shred of statistics. We don't even know if he is a good guy or a bad guy. But he definitely has the looks of a good Sonic character. He probably has a real cool, happy-go-lucky, zany, wild, whacky, and tenacious personality that is very frenetic and quick to anger or change at any second. All that is known is that his solution to pretty much anything is to blow it up.

Historical biography:

Bean the Dynamite came along upon hearing about the fighting tournament Tails started to decide which hero should be chosen to use the Chaos Emeralds and fly into outer space to destroy Eggman's new Death Egg II. The rocket Tails built was only a one-seater and required the Chaos Emeralds to operate. All of them at the time were distributed among quite a few residents of Earth; one of which was Bean the Dynamite, who had the green Chaos Emerald.

Bean's constant barrage of bombs on his opponents got him quite far, but in the end, Sonic managed to take both Eggman and the rebuilt Metal Sonic out for the count, thus saving the world again. Bean the Dynamite hasn't been seen since, but it's likely you can find him at the Dynamite Plant from where he battled!

GAME INFORMATION

Franchise name: Bean the Dynamite

Original purpose: Supporting role in Sonic the Fighters.

Current purpose: N/A, character is scrapped.

Date of first promotion/presence in the industry: Bean's debut in the industry came along with the release of the Arcade title, Sonic the Fighters, released first in Japan on June of 1996.

Years in service: A little over one year; Bean hasn't been seen since his cameo appearance in the Soccer title Virtua Striker 2, which was released on October 10th, 1997.

Likelihood of a possible return: Low. Bean was given barely any statistics in Sonic the Fighters. In spite of his unusually good amount of cameo appearances, he is still a very unknown, and at this point in the franchise, superfluous Sonic character. He probably won't be making a return.

Original Designer: Unconfirmed.

Design process: Unconfirmed. Bean's design process was probably similar to how all of the others were made. Many design sketches were made and Bean was chosen. Simple as that.

Possible design inspirations: Bean's most obvious design inspiration is Dynamite Dux: a 1988 Arcade game involving the two duck brothers, Bin & Pin, on their zany adventures to rescue Lucy. Bin & Pin were armed with an assemblage of techniques at their disposal to help them throughout their journey including a volley of physical maneuvers and of course a bunch of bombs. Bean the Dynamite was obviously inspired by these two ducks, not only because of his striking resemblance and comparable name, but also because the original Bin (the blue duck) is an alternate costume of Bean's in Fighters Megamix. Here is a picture of the Arcade image header of Dynamite Dux to prove the comparison: image.

*The picture on the left is for pure decoration. Although, it is completely faithful to Bean's original appearance in general, it has been stylized to fit the new generation and is not how Bean's original design appears.

Personal character analysis/commentary (by Nuclear Envoy):

Bean and Bark are usually paired together as the two most shallow characters in all of the Sonic Universe. Metal Knuckles and Tails Doll actually have less depth than these two (since these two might actually have been given official height and age statistics, not to mention have been in the comics), but I can't help but agree with people to a point. Bean the Dynamite is the more well-known of the two unique Sonic the Fighters characters, primarily due to his more-than-obvious relations to the old Arcade title, Dynamite Dux, and because of his cameo appearance in two other non-Sonic video games. But even then, his prominence in the fanbase is all but minimal, mostly because of his incredible lack of detail and figures. Characters these days are admired mostly because of their personality, which Bean hasn't even shown a single hint of other than the fact that he gives a peace sign before he fights. He seems like a real whacky critter, though.

However, Bean has a rather unusual amount of non-Sonic game cameo appearances: two. Trust me, that's a lot for such a deficient character. He was an extra playable character along with Bark in the Fighters Megamix title that starred characters from Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers (the very engine that Sonic the Fighters was designed off of). Bean's alternate costume in the game was Bin from the original Dynamite Dux. Bean also made a cameo appearance in Virtua Striker 2 as a hidden character in an additionally hidden team accessible by pressing a rather difficult code of buttons at the start screen.

Other than that, there isn't much to say about Bean. A whole lot of fans don't even know who he is, much less find him interesting. Although, it's always easy to understand why one would find him interesting. He's pretty neat looking and he's got a pretty nifty publicity gimmick.
